Turkey home sales statistics of 2017 have been announced by Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK / TSI). According to the data, across Turkey last year, 1 million 409 thousand 314 housings were sold. Home sales increased by 5.1 % in 2017 compared to the previous year.
The record that was set in 2016 with 1 million 341 thousand sales in residential sector, was overrun with 1 million 409 thousand home sales in 2017.

Istanbul was the biggest shareholder of ‘2017 home sales of Turkey’ with a number of 238 thousand 383 sales. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with the sales number of 150 thousand 561 housings, and Izmir with 84 thousand 184. According to TUIK data, Hakkari province had the least sales with only 124. Besides, 473 thousand 99 of home sales in Turkey were mortgaged, and 936 thousand 215 of them were in the other types of sales.
HomeSales to Foreigners Increased by 22% !
Sales of housing to foreigners made a 22.2 % increase in 2017 compared to the previous year. Across Turkey, a total of 22 thousand 234 residentials were sold to foreigners.
The Most Preferred Provinces for Foreigners
In the list of ‘2017 home sales to foreigners’, Istanbul ranked first with 8182 sales, Antalya was the second with 4707, and Bursa was the third with 1474. They are followed by Yalova in the fourth place with 1079 sales, and Trabzon in the fifth place with 978.
It Is Foreseen That the Sales of Housing to Foreigners Will Continue to Increase
Chairman of ‘Association of Housing Developers and Investors’ (shortly KONUTDER) has stated that the number of home sales to foreigners in 2017 was at a record high compared to 2016. He believes that the number of sales to foreigners will continue to increase in 2018, and this increase is the most important indication that the real estate industry continues to contribute to the Turkish economy. Lastly, he commented that real estate sector would continue to be the locomotive of Turkey’s economy in 2018, as it was in 2017.
